Brenda is an attorney and Equal Justice Works Fellow in public interest law, working at the intersection of immigration and economic justice. She works in Minnesota with immigrant small business owners and their family members. She previously worked for more than twenty years with cooperative enterprises across the United States. 

Her interest and involvement in human rights issues and Central America goes back to the 1980s when she was a student activist with CISPES. She later lived in El Salvador and Nicaragua during the late 1980s/early 1990s. More recently she has been part of three electoral observation missions in El Salvador with CIS (Centro de Intercambio y Solidaridad). 

In addition to a J.D., Brenda holds an M.S. in International Community Economic Development (ICED). She serves as a commissioner on her city’s human rights commission, as well as on the board of the Minnesota Justice Foundation.
