\u201cYour love for people who are traumatized, who have been victims of horrible, unspeakable things, in which it feels like all of humanity is gone from those who oppress them, that is the work of God, and it’s worth its weight in gold,\u201d said the Most Revd Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, during a meeting yesterday with Cristosal\u2019s team in El Salvador.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referring to Cristosal\u2019s Anglican roots, Director Noah Bullock said, \u201cCristosal was founded with the Anglican Church, and our first human rights office was in the Anglican Church. \u2026 [t]hat is the heart of our work: to accompany victims and defend their rights. That is a spirit that we inherited from the church.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The head of the Anglican Communion recognized the labor to support victims of the state of exception and Cristosal\u00b4s work to defend human rights over its 20-year history. He also applauded Cristosal\u2019s work to cultivating seeds of reconciliation that other generations may harvest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery conflict is different. The biggest mistake in reconciliation work is to imagine that because you did something in one way and it worked, it will work elsewhere. But there are three things especially that happen in all conflicts: torture; rape and victimization of women; and the manipulation and use of young people. But even in places where this is normal, very few groups like yours seek to accompany, protect, and be with victims of these armed conflicts,\u201d added Welby. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to El Salvador, who also praised the work of Cristosal. “I want to express my respect and admiration for what you do. I know that sometimes it is not easy – sometimes there is a lot of pressure. But as I’ve seen today, you have important friends in very important places and many friends in the international community, and we’re going to keep doing what we can to protect the space and conditions for you to do your courageous work,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cristosal was honored to receive this note from the Archbishop after his visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
