Our Mission Statement
We are a nonprofit organization of lay religious roots dedicated to development work in El Salvador. Cristosal is inspired by the Anglican mystic of solidarity, justice, tolerance, and inclusion. We are and organization where the mutual commitment of the Salvadoran and North American people converge in accompaniment of families and communities in their distinct processes of development. We seek to break the cycles of social, economic, and political marginalization through programs of education, professional advising, and locally managed human development projects.
Our Vision
The Cristosal Foundation aspires to be the primary reference and coordinator of the human development programs in the Episcopal Church of El Salvador. We seek to be an organization with a multidisciplinary team of professionals that works together with the Community Development Associations (ADESCO) based on the principals of solidarity, equality, and inclusion to implement programs of community development through structural change and social transformation. The organization will be rooted in our North American and Salvadoran base communities and together we will be dedicated to local empowerment and formation in partnerships with social organizations and the local and national government.
Our Background
In the last ten years, the Cristosal Foundation has dedicated itself to the cultivation of partnerships between people and parish communities of The Episcopal Church with the Anglican Church of El Salvador. The fruit of this labor is a network of passionate and committed people that stretches across North America.
The Proposal
The Cristosal Foundation is in the process of opening its organization structure to deeper participation by Salvadoran and North American base communities. In El Salvador this work is materializing in a series of open forums, and cooperation on new program initiatives with the various groups and sectors within the diocese. Recently Cristosal’s Board of Directors and the Convention of IAES approved a resolution establishment of three permanent seats on our Board of Directors for representatives nominated by the Salvadoran Convention. In North America, we are working to organize our regional support bases into “Cristosal Base Communities” that will serve;
- As a space for spiritual, cross cultural, and strategic formation and education.
- To organize the regional support and work for El Salvador.
- To create a grass roots fund raising network.
- To create a space for activism and participation, both inside and outside of the Episcopal Church, in Cristosal and on behalf of El Salvador.
